Donor Privacy Policy
Chi-Care is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors and prospective donors. The types of donor information that we collect and maintain include:
- Contact information: name, address, telephone number, and email address
- Giving information: gift dates, amounts, and purpose
- Event Information: events attended, volunteer hours performed
Chi-Care uses donors’ information to understand their interests in our mission and to update them on our programs, plans, and activities.
Information is shared with staff, board members, volunteers, and consultants only on a need-to-know basis. With respect to anonymous gifts, Chi-Care will restrict donor information to only those staff and board members whose job responsibilities require access to that information.
Chi-Care uses third-party vendors to provide services on our website and in our offline operations. Donor information may be shared with those vendors on a confidential basis so they can perform services such as database management, email list administration, fundraising event ticketing, or credit card processing on Chi-Care’s behalf. We will never sell or share donor information with any third party for that party’s own use, unless the donor has granted permission in writing.
This policy is reviewed and updated periodically. The most recent update date is indicated at the end of this document. By submitting personal information to Chi-Care, a donor agrees that Chi-Care may use their information in accordance with this privacy policy.
If you have comments or questions about Chi-Care’s donor privacy policy, please contact us at info@chi-care.org or call (872) 241-2273.
Gift Acceptance Guidelines and Policies
Chi-Care gratefully accepts:
- Cash contributions
- Publicly traded securities, which are typically liquidated upon receipt
- In-kind donations and non-cash gifts, such as personal or real property, equipment, and professional services
Chi-Care honors donor intent when gifts are designated for specific purposes, provided the restriction is compatible with the organization’s mission and capacity. We reserve the right to decline any gift that carries obligations, risks, or restrictions inconsistent with Chi-Care’s values or operations.
Review of Non-Standard Contributions
Non-liquid assets, gifts with conditions, or contributions from unclear sources may require a formal review. Such gifts will be evaluated by Chi-Care’s gift review team—comprising staff leadership and board representatives—to assess any potential liabilities, costs, or reputational implications. In some cases, a third-party appraisal or legal opinion may be sought prior to final acceptance.
Donor Acknowledgment & Tax Matters
Chi-Care provides IRS-compliant acknowledgment letters for all gifts. However, except for cash, marketable securities, or real estate, Chi-Care does not assign or confirm a fair market value for in-kind contributions. Donors are encouraged to consult with tax professionals or legal advisors regarding the implications of their gift.
Ethics & Stewardship
Chi-Care maintains a strict policy of integrity in donor relationships. We do not offer compensation to any individual or entity in exchange for securing a donation, and we do not engage in commissions, referral fees, or similar arrangements.
